About Us

As a company, La Plastecnica is a lot like the innovative products we offer – simple in form, and flexible in nature. We have spent time on the factory floor and in the lab; we understand the complex problems faced by the industry; and we offer simple yet technically superior solutions to those problems. We are based in New Zealand.

Our History

Rory’s credentials include an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering (1996 – 1998); a Masters in Engineering Management; and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (under Roy Crawford). After completing these programmes, Rory travelled to Queens University in Belfast, where he conducted post-graduate research with the Polymer Processing Research Centre (2001). From there, Rory obtained a job at an Italian rotational moulding factory as a Research and Development Engineer. In this position, Rory discovered that a significant number of the quality problems that he was responsible for fixing were caused by ineffective venting. He decided to develop a product to solve these problems.

On returning from Italy to New Zealand, Rory founded La Plastecnica (the name was inspired by his stint in Italy) and developed his first product, the Supavent. Supavent was developed out of a desire to remove the inconsistencies associated with packing various porous mediums into vent tubes to stop powder falling out of moulds during the moulding cycle.

During the development of this product we discovered that effective venting provides a number of other benefits as well, and we haven’t looked back since! La Plastecnica continues to develop innovative and effective venting products to improve the entire rotational moulding industry.

Manufacture and Distribution

Our venting products are manufactured in New Zealand, and our distributor set-up is simple. This minimises shipping costs, speeds delivery times and puts our customers in touch with companies that already have a wealth of experience in the rotational moulding industry. All of our distributors can provide technical support and advice, and we remain in constant contact with them or directly with customers – whichever is required.

Ethical Statement

Economic development and technical progress do not have to come with an environmental cost. Our intention is to reduce the environmental cost of the rotational moulding industry as a whole through the reduction of energy inputs, scrap rates and re-work. Research and experience have shown that, used correctly, our venting products meet these objectives.

We are passionate about reducing our carbon footprint as a company. To this end, we have chosen company bicycles over company cars, and we run a paperless office.

Our decision to manufacture in New Zealand is supported by our familiarity with New Zealand labour laws and safety standards.
